as you drive through the traffic does look good as you get up to the downtown oakland area. also we are looking at westbound bay bridge. that traffic is moving along very nicely at the toll plaza. it's 5:00 let's go back to the desk. >>> over night news a car involved in a high speed chase through alameda county might be connected to a shooting in hayward. ktvu channel 2 reporter tara moriarty joins us from hayward with more on this possible connection. tara. >> reporter: this is where police say that an innocent bystander could have been killed in a drive by shooting. right now police are looking at surveillance video from that gas station to see if it provides more clues. authorities believe the suspect involved in this shooting is who led them on a child chase just hours later. our cameras caught the high speed chase north on 880 through oakland late last night. police tried to pull the driver over in hayward just after 11:00 for a dui in reckless driving. the car ended up spinning out of control. police cars smashed into it to box the driver in and arrest him. officers say peopl

allegations that money was paid to influence an oakland city counsel member to do business on public property. ktvu's eric rasmussen uncovered a second investigation involving larry reid who is already the suggest of a report -- subject of a report by the auditor. >> reporter: we obtained this report by a private investigator. it includes an interview with a man who says his business partner paid money to get special treatment from larry reid. >> reporter: they had a good deal on the side of the old oakland army base. in 2009 it got approval to accept material. >> i was so concerned. >> reporter: he told us his business partner and owner paid a long time activist a thousand dollars a week to get the city's cooperation. >> reporter: what was the money for? >> so he could get whatever he wants from the city. >> reporter: how do you think he was doing that? >> because he had a connection. he had a connection with larry reid. >> reporter: according to the report he told a private investigator i heard him tell him he wanted to retire and he wanted $50,000 a year and he needed to figure out how he

with his parents was hit in the torso and is recovering in children's hospital in oakland this morning. no one else was hurt. authorities say the shotses were fired from the g street overcrossing. if you have any information on the shooting you are asked to call antioch police. >>> also in the east bay, a suspect in a deadly shooting in january is now under arrest this morning. police arrested 18-year-old jabri bennett on friday. he is accused of firing shots at a bart station on january 19th killing kenneth sheets an innocent bystander who was just wait for example a bus. police identified bennett as a prime suspect in january, but have not been able to locate him. a policeman on patrol spotted bennett and took him into custody. this morning two men from the bay area are wanted for a bank heist. this is video of the robbery. the two men stole more than $1 million in gold, jewelry and artifacts from an historical collection in eureka. the crime actually happened more than a year ago, but the suspects were just named by authorities. 49-year-old david johnson of el cerrito, 51 scott bai

connecting oakland and or yinda. today, abc 7 news got a look inside of the new tunnel and joins us live from oakland. heather? >> hi, ama. 1937 is a very big year for bay area transportation. that is when the golden gate bridge opened and the first two caldecott tunnels. 2013 is going to be bigger, one for the record books. we have the opening of devil's slide tunnel followed by the opening of the bay bridge by the caldecott fourth floor. but today, elbow grease and shovels were still a preferred method for the work. at the same time, work has just begun on a major milestone, putting in a roadway. this rocky material is the subbase loose, rocky for drainage. layers of material will fill two to three feet reach together shoulder curve and to just below pedestrian walkway on another. when finished it will carry westbound traffic only. >> with construction tlb two tunnels dedicated to eastbound traffic. that will eliminate the traffic shifts and pop ups. >> fourth floor has a number safety features including jet fans yet to be hung. they'll help in fire fighting and air quality. >> they can rev
